Monitoring

Network Monitoring
Requirements:
- Must have the ability to monitor several private networks, each of which may be monitored by its own server, or possibly monitored by 1 primary server, with partitioned views.
- Must perform TCP level port monitoring - such as verifying that POP3 is active on an ISP server. Application layer monitoring - such as verifying POP3 authentication - is a plus.
- Must have good Cisco integration.
- Must monitor our video network, which includes:
- Sencore Receivers
- Motorola HD Encoders
- Tut Encoders (via the Tut EMS)
- Conklin Middleware severs
- Ineoquest
- Must monitor the Metaswitch (our 5E switch is not a requirement)
- Monitors Rectifiers, Heat Alarms, etc. via dry contacts
- Monitors existing Calix C7 equipment, and new E5 Calix equipment
- Monitors Adtran PRI/POTS devices
- Monitors SLAs - Can provide uptime information for customer services.
- Must be able to call on-call personal at night, via a direct POTS line phone connection.
- Should be able to provide restricted views to other personnel within the company, such as our trouble ticketing department.
- A (restricted) customer interface is a bonus - that is, providing an interface for customers to view outages, SLAs and interface statistics.
- Redundacy is also a requirement. We need to know if the monitoring system goes down.

- Calix C7
- Dry Contact Input: The Calix C7 supports provisioning of 8 user-defined alarms for ancillary equipment through wire wrap pins located on the shelf backplane's Alarm Interface Module (AIM).
- Dry Contact Output: The procedure below describes how to wire audible and visual alarms on the Calix C7 shelf to a central office alarm system. Use 26 AWG minimum (19 AWG maximum) wire. The C7 alarm contacts are Normally Open (default). The circuit closes when an alarm condition occurs.
